Equine Influenza Update 2026
We're sure you've seen the news about the recent increase in reports of Equine Influenza cases. Recently, there's been several outbreaks reported in our area, mostly in new arrivals and unvaccinated horses.
This is a great time for us to remind you all to practice routine yard biosecurity, especially when dealing with new arrivals in order to protect your horses! Remember to ensure that any horses new to yards are isolated from other animals for a minimum of 14 days in case they develop symptoms of EI. For comprehensive biosecurity advice follow the link below to access the latest recommendations from the BHA:

It's also really important to stay vigilant whilst out competing or showing, making sure there is no contact between your horse and others or sharing of equipment.
Please monitor your horses and contact us if you are concerned about any signs of respiratory disease, especially when seen alongside a high temperature. Clinical signs of Equine Influenza can include; a high temperature over 38.5°c, a sudden loss in appetite, coughing and nasal discharge.
Vaccines reminder -
Remember that vaccinations are key to helping protect your horses - please take this opportunity to check your vaccination dates in your passports to ensure that they are up to date. If you're unsure then feel free to give us a call and we can help make sure your horse is correctly immunised.
In some circumstances it may be appropriate to vaccinate your horse more frequently. This should be considered on yards with very high stocking density where horse to horse contact is unavoidable or those that have lots of new arrivals/frequent horse movements on and off the yard.
Until further notice the BHA have announced that only horses from licensed training yards will be allowed to enter racecourse property on race days as a precautionary measure to minimise mixing between the thoroughbred and non-thoroughbred population. Unfortunately, this means that all Hunter Chase races scheduled from the 20th May are cancelled. It also means the cancellation of any other equine events due to take place on UK racecourses such as; ROR parades and entertainment activities on race days (pony rides, petting zoos etc.).
